PROPOSED CONNEXIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE
INTRODUCTION
The Methodist Church Ghana adopted a 10-year strategic plan document three years ago for study and implementation. When the SWOT analysis of the Church was conducted one of the weaknesses that was identified was an “Over-elaborate organogram that is difficult to administer”
One of the key strategic issues and challenges was therefore identified as “ineffective and elaborate Board system of administration”. A key strategic objective has therefore been “To review the Board system of administration and make it more manageable and responsive to the administrative needs of the Church”
Under this strategic objective two operational objectives were identified, namely
- To reduce and simplify the structures of the Board system and operational procedures in church administration.
- To introduce necessary reforms into the decentralized system of administration in order to make them more efficient and cost effective.
To drive the strategic Plan to its desired ends we believe that two of the strategic objectives need to be tackled head-on if the remaining seven are to be tackled effectively. They are
- The organizational structure strategic objective
- The Finance strategic objective
This document addresses itself to the organizational structure strategic objective. The finance strategic objective is being addressed by the Maj. (Rtd.) Ablorh special committee that is dealing with the issue of “Modernizing the Finance function in the Methodist Church Ghana”.
The New Structure
The new structure does away with the 5 Boards and Divisional Committees and replaces them with 4 general Directorates and Directorates operating under them, supported by Advisory Teams.
Some Directorates, due to the nature of their function, shall operate directly under the supervision of the Executive (namely, the Presiding Bishop, Lay President and the Administrative Bishop).
